Dance at Hickory Hills

At Hickory Hills, all students take Dance! They also take Drama, Art, Music, and PE as part of the Specials rotation. We have fun with movement and creativity! Dance is for EVERYONE!

Students should wear their dance uniform to school. Students who are wearing leotards should make sure they are appropriately covered with tights/leggings or another covering. Dance shoes should not be worn outside, only in the dance studio. Please pack dance shoes in their book bag for them to bring to dance.

The dance room has a special type of flooring meant specifically for dance. We do not wear shoes in the dance room to keep it clean, and socks are also not worn because they are too slippery. An alternative to bare feet is dance shoes! They provide the perfect amount of traction for turns, slides, and other fun movements!

The dance uniform has a variety of options to make it accessible to all families. The most basic is a plain white T-shirt and black athletic pants (see Dance Uniform Information section for details). You can rent gently used items from HHE Dance to support the program. A full uniform with dance shoes is $15, or you may rent individual items for $5 each. Rented items must be returned by the end of the year or if you move. If you need financial assistance, a scholarship program is available. You can also purchase items from other stores or DanceMax Dancewear, where HH families receive a 10% discount.

Each class comes to Dance on a specific Specials Rotation Day based on a number, not a weekday. Every month, a Rotation Calendar is available to view in the school newsletter or on our Instagram (@HH_specials).

You will see a chart showing your child's Dance Rotation Day, and they should wear their dance uniform to school on those days. If your child's dance day falls on a non-uniform day (Pajama Day, Wellness Wednesday, Friday), it is okay for them to participate instead of wearing their dance uniform. However, students who are wearing their dance uniform will still receive their dojo point.
